Burning Witch

Burning Witch was an American doom metal band. The only existing from 1995 to 1998 band developed after its dissolution cult status and is now regarded as a precursor of Drone Doom.

Band History

Burning Witch was founded in 1995 by Stephen O'Malley, Greg Anderson and Jamie Sykes after the dissolution of the band Thorr 's Hammer. Greg Anderson left the band again relatively quickly in order to then play with Goatsnake.

In 1996, the band for the first time, produced by Steve Albini, an EP, but the recordings were released in 1998 after the dissolution of the band as Towers .... Before 1997, the EP Rift.Canyon.Dreams, the only publication appeared during its existence.

Burning Witch broke up in 1997 due to their lack of awareness and other projects of the members, also drew Stephen O'Malley to England. Shortly after the band had dissolved, the compilation Crippled Lucifer, the only album the band released. In autumn 1998, Burning Witch played again some final live shows.

The band became known only after their resolution, while she insisted she got almost no attention and did a few live performances. O'Malley formed along with Anderson, the band Sunn O))), Dahlquist followed Anderson to Goatsnake. Meanwhile, O'Malley is in different projects active, Edgy 59 founded the project Sinisstar and operates together with the project Dahlquist The Poisoned Glass.
