The members of Goatsnake all played previously in various other bands. So singer Peter Stahl was formerly a member of the hardcore band Scream and the rock band Wool. Your guitarist, Greg Anderson, previously played in Engine Kid and both their drummer, Greg Rogers, as well as their bassist Guy Pinhas, at The Obsessed.

In 1998, the band released their first two singles, but although they were then known in the underground, the debut album was released in 1999. Was followed by a European tour with Unida, Fatso Jetson and Electric Wizard. In spring 2000, Guy Pinhas left the band. As a bass player now was added the former Burning Witch member Stuart Dahlquist.

Style

The Encyclopedia of Heavy Metal Goatsnake referred to as a " supergroup of sorts " and justifies this with the professionalism of the members. As a result, their first album sounds called Goatsnake I, which appeared in May 1999, " so concentrated and brought to the point " ( " as tight and focused" ), as it was already their fifth. The contrast between the " smooth and soulful " voice of steel and the " hard pounding, deep " guitar sound is praised.

She herself describes her music as follows: "Imagine Ozzy with Stevie Wonder's soul. "
