This release can also be time- limited, for example, only during off-peak times. Taking a bus lane is defined as a whole lane, which may be used only by buses, taxis and possibly also by cyclists.

Description

The establishment of bus lanes has to be able to convey the goal as many people in a short time on high -density lines in urban areas (such as cities ). This is achieved through the granting of priority to public transport (LPT ) compared to the motorized individual transport (MIT ), among other things, by special traffic lights, Busschleusen or just specific lanes. The bus lanes will be marked by appropriate traffic signs and road markings on the road. The buses should be possible in this way to be able to operate as possible timetable justice of congested traffic unhindered. Occasionally buses is also allowed to drive on roads that are closed to other individuals completely or in a direction of travel. Bus lanes run occasionally on an appropriately fixed roadbed tram.

Development

In addition to the shared use of separate areas for trams by buses in 1968, the first special lanes were set up specifically for line buses in Wiesbaden. A short time later, in 1970, the city of Berlin began with the establishment of bus lanes.

At that time lacked the bus lanes of a legal basis in the Highway Code, this changed with the amendment of the Road Traffic Act on 1 March 1971 in which was expressly provided an introduction of bus lanes. Delegations from many countries (including the first Japan) studied on the spot the advantages and taught after bus lanes in their own country.

Bus lane with sharing for other road users

Here the vehicles or modes expressly designated by Zusatzschild have the use of the bus lanes (taxis, cyclists, for example). According to studies in Münster and experience reports of other cities of a shared bus lanes by cyclists is largely unproblematic when the width either narrow ( 3.00 to 3.25 m) or wide enough for overtaking within the bus lane ( > 4.75 m ) is ( see literature).
