Büyükada

Buyukada ( Turkish for large island), Greek name Prinkipos ( Πρίγκηπος ), is an island in the Marmara Sea off Istanbul (Turkey), the largest of the Princes' Islands. The island is a resort for many Istanbul, despite the proximity to the metropolis of the island is very quiet. Private cars and taxis are prohibited on the island, one moves on with horse-drawn carriages or bicycles; the " pass " between the two hills riding donkeys can be hired.

On Buyukada, the Ottoman politicians Mehmed Memduh from 1908 and Soviet politician Leon Trotsky spent 1929 each a few years of their exile.

It belongs to the archipelago of the Adalar ( literally translated as "islands" ), which are called in German " Princes' Islands ".

At the highest point of the island ( 203 m, about 1.5 km west of the "Pass" ) is a well-preserved old Greek Orthodox monastery church (St. George).
