Cabestany is a commune with 9199 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Pyrénées- Orientales of the Languedoc -Roussillon region southeast of Perpignan.

The approximately 1,000 -acre community is located in the coastal plain of Roussillon between the rivers Tet and reART. In earlier times, here is extended shallow lakes (comparable to the neighboring Etang de Canet -en- Roussillon ), which silted up as a result. The resulting arable land are mainly used for wine production, but increasingly also for holiday apartments.

The town owes its fame to the Master of Cabestany, an unidentified sculptor of the 12th century, whose works can be found not only in the South of France but also in Spain and Italy. The church of Notre -Dame des Anges is home to the tympanum of the best known works of this artist.
