Cag Cagnolatti

Ernest Joseph " Ernie " Cagnolatti ( born April 2, 1911 in Madisonville (Louisiana ), † April 7, 1983 in New Orleans ) was an American musician (trumpet, vocals) of hot jazz.

Cagnolatti started to learn the trumpet as a teenager. He played from 1933 to 1942 in Herbert Leary's big band, also in the bands of Sidney Desvigne, Bill Matthews and Papa Celestin. In the 1940s and 1950s, he worked in the George Williams Brass Band with parades. In the early 1950s he worked with Alphonse Picou. Recordings were made in the 1960s with Paul Barbarin, Harold Dejan, Jim Robinson and the Onward Brass Band (1968), he also appeared with the Camelia Brass Band and the Young Tuxedo Brass Band. From 1974 to 1980 he played regularly at Preservation Hall. In 1980 he suffered a stroke that ended his career. Cagnolatti worked 1950-1969 with at 25 recording sessions.
