Cahoots is the fourth studio album by Canadian folk and country - rock group The Band. It was released on September 15, 1971 on the label, Capitol Records. The criticism expressed quite different views on the quality of the album, usually Cahoots but is considered one of the weaker albums of the band. According to the chart positions were comparatively disappointing. In the U.S. Billboard charts, the album made number 21 in the UK, it did not reach the Top 40
Cahoots is, as The Band and Stage Fright in front of him, very strongly influenced by Robbie Robertson's songwriting, which apart from Bob Dylan's When I Paint My Masterpiece, collaborated on all the songs. On the other hand, it is the first album on which Richard Manuel has completely disappeared from the songwriting credits. Only Rick Danko, Levon Helm and special guest Van Morrison helped at any one song on the album.
The only single from the album was released in December of the year in the form of Life Is a Carnival on the market. As a B-side The Moon Struck One was used. As the album was Life Is a Carnival commercial terms rather a failure. It reached the Billboard charts its peak at number 72 and failed on the UK Top 40
