Cala d'Or

Cala d'Or is for the most part to the municipality of Santanyi, the northeastern part of the Cala Serena to the municipality of Felanitx. The main centers of the resort are Cala d'Or with adjacent areas of Cala Egos and Cala Ferrera. The distance to the center of Palma is 60 kilometers to the airport at Palma you drive about an hour. The entrance to the port by ship was formerly protected by the fortress Es Forti - today the only historic landmark of Cala d'Or. The main entrance for vehicles made ​​in the roundabout on traffic islands, which are decorated with sculptures.

Many buildings in Cala d'Or, according to the Mediterranean tradition painted white and correspond in their flat design, the cubic Ibiza style. This is not accidental, for the Ibizan architect Josep Costa Ferrer, who planned the town in the early 1930s, had been inspired by his home.

The nearest major town is inland Santanyi. The original fishing port of Porto Petro is five minutes by car. Set in a conservation area lying not far distant double bay of Cala Mondragó recommended for an extended day at the beach.
