Caldas Department

The Departamento de Caldas is a department in the center of Colombia. It is bordered to the north by the Antioquia, on the east by the Cundinamarca south are the departments of Tolima and de Risaralda, which also shares the border in the west with Caldas.

Coffee is the main agricultural product. It sugar cane, yucca, bananas and corn are grown further. Is also widespread livestock. Industrial outweigh the production of ceramic and glass, and the processing of leather and wood.

The department was established on 11 April 1905 before the area belonged to the Departamento de Antioquia. The name refers to the Colombian freedom fighter Francisco José de Caldas. In 1966, the two departments de Quindio Risaralda and Caldas were separated.
