The California State University, San Marcos ( CSUSM or Cal State also called San Marcos ) is a public university in San Marcos in the San Diego area in the U.S. state of California. The college was founded in 1989. It is part of the California State University system.

History

As early as 1968 there were the first efforts in the North County, San Diego to build a university. But it would take until 1989 before the then Governor George Deukmejian decided to create the 20th campus of the CSU San Marcos by law.

Bill W. Stacy was appointed in June 1989 as the first president of the university and put together with the 12 other, placed by him, founding members of the foundation for the future development of the university. In February 1990, work began on the new campus, which was completed in August 1992.

As early as September 1990, the first students were admitted to the courses had to be carried out in specially rented premises until the completion of construction works. In subsequent years, the campus has been steadily expanded with additional buildings (including Craven Hall, University Hall, Kellogg Library, Markstein Hall ).

Courses of Study

The CSU San Marcos is divided into four faculties, in which several courses are offered:

  • Business Administration (College of Business Administration)
  • Humanities and Social Sciences ( College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences)
  • Health and Education ( College of Education, Health and Human Services )
  • Natural Sciences and Mathematics ( College of Science and Mathematics )

Sports

All sports teams of CSU San Marcos compete under the name Cougars. The mascot of the University ie Tukwut; the name of the California mountain lion from the language of the local Native Americans.

At the university, there are a total of 13 teams taking part in the competitions of the NAIA ( Region 2) participate:

  • Soccer ( M / W)
  • Golf (M / W)
  • Track & Field ( M / W)
  • Softball (W)
  • Volleyball ( W)

In addition, there are other sports in various disciplines ( lacrosse, cycling, surfing, dancing, triathlon).
