Caloplaca

Caloplaca sp.

The genus Caloplaca includes about 500 species of lichens worldwide. In Central Europe, there are about 100 of them in Germany about 75 species.

Many species are known by a lack of unique features still insufficient and not sure yet determinable.

The species colonize silicate rocks, limestone ( partly endolithisch ) and base- rich crusts. However, mosses and plant remains are colonized. They are distributed to the high mountains.

It is characterized by the construction of the spores. These are polar 2-cell (except Caloplaca ochracea up to 4 cell) and diamond-shaped, ellipsoid to oblong.

Much of the rock types occurring on tolerates drought very well.
