Calymmian

The Calymmium is a period of Proterozoic and begins at about 1,600 million years ago and ending about 1,400 million years ago. With the Calymmium the Mesoproterozoikum began and ended the Paleoproterozoic.

Naming

The name is derived from shell gr kalymma = ' and to indicate the extent of the platform sedimentary covers on the geologically little earlier formed cratons out.
