Canadian Championship

The Canadian Championship is a 2008 created football tournament to earn the Canadian Representative for the CONCACAF Champions League. Is sponsored competition from the U.S. company Amway. The tournament will therefore be held under the sponsorship name Amway Canadian Championship.

Mode

The Canadian Championship is organized by the American continental federation CONCACAF and the Canadian Soccer Association. The tournament was played in May 2008 for the first time and ended in July of the same year. Among the original participants Montreal Impact ( MLS since 2012 ), Toronto FC ( MLS) and Vancouver Whitecaps FC ( MLS ), 2011 came the FC Edmonton ( NASL ).

The first three editions were as round-robin tournament, ie each team meets once each at home and away to the other two parties, discharged. Since 2011 the tournament in KO mode is discharged with the semifinals and finals. The set numbers are assigned based on the previous year's standings in the league. The winner of this tournament receives the Voyageurs Cup. The trophy was awarded to 2007, the best Canadian team in the USL First Division ( Regular Season ).

* On the first three tournaments attended only three teams. FC Edmonton takes only partially since the 2011 season. There is no 3rd place match, where the poorer semi-final loser is listed as fourth. Since 2014, the Ottawa Fury plays in the tournament, so the loser of the qualifying round is listed as fifth.
