Candid Records

Candid Records is a 1960 founded in New York by Archie Bleyer Jazz label ( as a sub - label of his Cadence labels), for the early 1960s, the jazz critic Nat Hentoff was a producer and civil rights activist. They brought, inter alia, Charles Mingus ( " Mingus " 1960, " Charles Mingus presents Charles Mingus " ), Abbey Lincoln and Max Roach ( with the programmatic " We Insist! Freedom Now Suite") and Eric Dolphy out. The label was only until 1961 ( but the singer Andy Williams made some re-releases from the catalog on his Barnaby label), but in 1988 by the English producer Alan Bates (founder of Black Lion Records) was revived. Bates brought the entire catalog reissued, as well as some previously unpublished photographs. Candid brought in England, among others the singer Jamie Cullum, Clare Teal and Stacey Kent out of which Cullum (whose debut album appeared in Candid ) but with the onset of success to Verve Records and moved on Clare Teal to Sony.

About the wife of Bates - Nieves Pascua - Bates - expanding the label in the Philippines. "Candid Records Philippines" brought, inter alia, the jazz guitarist Johnny Alegre and the jazz singer Mon David out.
