Cantus Buranus

Cantus Buranus (Latin for " song from Benediktbeuren ") is the editor and new scoring primarily secular texts from the medieval manuscript Carmina Burana by Corvus Corax. Cantus Buranus distinguishes itself by the fusion of medieval instruments (played by Corvus Corax ) with classical orchestras and choirs.

First, twelve pieces in the collection are set to music and published under the title " Cantus Buranus " on CD ( Roadrunner Records), the setting of other pieces is in machining. In addition to the CD an audio DVD of the limited first edition is, on the " Cantus Buranus " in Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is coming from the perspective of the conductors.

In February 2008 the recordings started for the " Cantus Buranus II" titled successor with the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg under the direction of Bernard Fabuljan.

Instruments used

In addition to the "usual" instruments of a classical orchestra a number of other, medieval instruments will be used, which are handmade to a great extent by Corvus Corax:

Aulos, Bombard, Buccina, cittern, claves, Darabuka, Davul, hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, flute, glockenspiel, Gardon, army drum, horns, Hümmelchen, lute, jew's harp, ocarina, Organistrum, pandeiro, Päuklein, psaltery, Riesendara, riqq, frame drum, clamps, Schleudertrömmelchen, shawm, snare drum, tambourine, Tibetan Businen, Triangle, trumscheit, xylophone, tines.

Performances

Cantus Buranus

The public rehearsal of the work took place on 30 January 2005 at the Staatstheater Cottbus, composed of the Philharmonic Orchestra and the Opera Chorus of the State Theater Cottbus under the direction of conductor Jörg Iwer and the vocal ensemble Psalteria from Prague and the choir Ivan Pl Zajc, Zagreb, instead. World premiere was on 5 August 2005 at the Wacken Open Air in the same occupation.

Probably the best known so far performances were given on 19 and 20 August 2005 a total of approximately 5,000 spectators held on the Museum Island in Berlin during the annual Museum Island Festival. Patron of the event was Berlin's mayor Klaus Wowereit. These performances were recorded and published on 3 March 2006 under the title " Cantus Buranus Live in Berlin" CD and DVD.

In addition, Cantus Buranus was listed on 12 January 2006 as the opening event of the Euro Sonic Festival in the Martini Kerk in Groningen with the Radio Chamber Orchestra Cologne and the conductor Bernard Fabuljan.

Cantus Buranus II

The second part of the work was first performed partially in Halle ( Saale) on 31 May 2008. The concert had to be interrupted due to a storm, so that not all planned pieces could be listed.

Actual premiere and album premiere was the appearance on the Black Stage of the Wacken Open Air on August 1, 2008. The world premiere took place in November 2008 as part of the Germany Esplanade in China instead. It further appearances have been confirmed for 2008 and 2009.

The stage choir Cantus Buranus II since May 2008, the " Passionata Choir Berlin". Since March 2009, the "Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague " is required for the performances.

The published various sound and visual recordings of the cantus Buranus through Roadrunner Records. Cantus Buranus II was released by the band's own label Pica Music.
