Caproni Ca.90

The Caproni about 90 was an Italian heavy bomber.

History and construction

The Caproni ca.90 was a sesquiplane and 1929 was constructed. At the time of its conception it was the largest aircraft in the world. The even larger Dornier Do X was released later in 1929. Thereafter, the approximately 90 remained until the appearance of the Tupolev ANT -20 in 1934, the largest country aircraft. The fuselage was a fabric used to cover welded steel pipe construction with the exception of the clad with corrugated duralumin front area.

In the longer 11,68 m lower wing four composite to two tandem engines were mounted. The third pair of tandem motor was attached with struts above the fuselage. As a pusher propeller came a four-blade, as a two-bladed tractor propeller used.

In the exploration and testing program a load of 9980 kg could be lifted. For a height of 3255 m was reached. With this load, the maximum flight time was 3 hours and 31 minutes.
