Caproni Ca.97

The Caproni Ca.97 was an Italian multi-purpose aircraft. She was the first commercial success of the aircraft manufacturer Caproni in the 1930s.

History and construction

The aircraft was constructed in 1927 as a high-wing aircraft for up to six passengers and was originally designed for three motors. Intended were Lorraine -Dietrich- line engines with a power output of 130 PS, 97 kW. It also planes were built with one or two engines with a total output of approximately 400 to 500 hp ( 298-373 kW). The above data correspond to the single-engined version.

The Ca.97 was used in military and civilian. Among other things, as a transporter, as a training aircraft, as ambulance aircraft, as reconnaissance and bomber. In the reconnaissance version a machine gun position was used behind the wing.

The Bristol- radial engine was also used for the variant Ca.97 Idro. This was a seaplane with two floats.

The total number of built Ca.97 probably was 13 copies.
