Caproni Ca.113

The Caproni Ca.113 was an Italian trainer aircraft.

History and construction

Dei Ca.113 was developed in 1931 and was designed as a biplane. Originally (179 kW) were used for this two-seater motors of the type Walter Castor with 270 hp. Soon, however, the significantly stronger Piaggio engine was used by default.

The aircraft was used for advanced training and was also an excellent aerobatic machine. Even in the standard version several record flights were made; further modified with special versions of some more records were set.

Altitude record in 1934

In an attempt to break the altitude record, a Ca.113 with a Bristol Pegasus radial engine was equipped with additional supercharging. This engine was built by Alfa Romeo under license and used a special four-bladed propeller. The wingspan was increased to 14,15 m. With this aircraft Renato Donati reached on 11 April 1934 with the height of 14,433 m a world altitude record. With the same aircraft scored 1935 Contessa Carina Negrone with 12.010 m an altitude record for women.
