Carani

Carani (German Mercydorf, Hungarian Merczyfalva or Mercyfalva ) is a village in Timiş, Romania and belongs to the municipality Sanandrei.

Location

Carani is located 18 kilometers north of Timisoara on the road DJ 692 and 3 km east of the European Route 671 Carani is connected to the railway network and is located on the railway line Timisoara - Arad. Is administered by the municipality of the village Sanandrei. The name it owes the river Caran, from which it is traversed.

History

After the Peace of Passarowitz on July 21, 1718 Kolonisiereung the Banat started by the Habsburg Monarchy. The village was founded in 1733 by the settlement of Italian colonists. The name Mercydorf, which was awarded to him at the establishment, it owes the first President of the Banat land administration, Count Claudius Mercy Flori mouth, who was responsible for the implementation of the Habsburg settlement. The Italians, who were settled here were silkworm rearers and should establish sericulture in the Banat. They came with their priest Clemens Rossi, who was not only the first pastor of the parish, founded in 1734, but who also taught the children of the village in the Italian language. 1752 and 1770 the French established themselves from Alsace and Lorraine in Mercydorf. Thus, the colloquial French was prevalent. After 1763, the village was expanded with German from Lorraine, was preached in three languages ​​in the church. But slowly sat down in the mixed population of the German element by Mercydorf and turned towards the end of the 18th century in a German village.

As a result of the Austro- Hungarian compromise in February 1867 Banat came under Hungarian control domestically. It put a huge Magyarisierungswelle, which reached its peak in the early 20th century. The place received official designation Mercyfalva.

On 4 June 1920, the Banat was divided into three parts as a result of the Treaty of Trianon. The largest, eastern part, which also Mercydorf belonged, fell to the Kingdom of Romania. 1923 was the place the official name Carani.

As a result of the Waffen-SS Agreement of May 12, 1943 between the Antonescu government and Hitler's Germany all ethnic German conscript men were drafted into the German army. Even before the war, in January 1945, the deportation of all ethnic German women aged 18-30 and men aged 16-45 found for construction labor in the Soviet Union instead.

The land reform law of 23 March 1945 which provided for the expropriation of German farmers in Romania, the rural population escaped the livelihoods. The expropriated land was distributed to small farmers, farm workers and settlers from other parts of the country. Early 1950s, the collectivization of agriculture was initiated. Through the nationalization law of 11 June 1948 providing for the nationalization of all industrial and commercial establishments, banks and insurance companies, the expropriation of all farms took place regardless of ethnicity.
