Caribbean Series

The Series del Caribe (Spanish for Caribbean Championship; engl Caribbean Series. ) Is a swept annual baseball tournament among club teams from the Caribbean region. The host country and thus the venue rotates annually between the participating clubs from Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Participants are the respective champions of the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico (LMP, Mexico), the League Dominicana de Béisbol Invernal ( LIDOM, Dominican Republic), the Puerto Rico Baseball League ( PRBL, Puerto Rico) and the League Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional ( LVBP, Venezuela).

The tournament was initiated by the Venezuelans Oscar " El Negro" Prieto and Pablo Morales and should be organized as Inter-American baseball championship. In 1949 the tournament was first held, at that time with teams from Panama, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. From 1949 to 1960, Cuba was the most successful participant country with 7 wins and 3 teams, each with two tournament victories.

In 1961 the professional baseball league was abolished in Cuba and this led to a premature end of the series del Caribe. In 1970 the tournament was re- organized, without the participation of Cuba and Panama, were newly added Mexico and the Dominican Republic. 2014 took the first time since 1960, again attended by a team from Cuba. Successful team Tigres del Licey are from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with 10 wins.
