Carl Foreman

Carl Foreman ( born July 23, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois, † June 26, 1984 in Beverly Hills, California ) was an American screenwriter and film producer.

Life and work

He studied at the University of Illinois. In the 1930s he became a member of the American Communist Party. Due to this he was the victim of defamation after he had been called before the Committee on Un-American Activities later in the 1950s. This meant his unemployment in Hollywood. One, led by John Wayne public smear campaign eventually forced him in 1953 to go into exile in England. There he wrote screenplays using a pseudonym.

In 1963 he led the first and only time self- directed. The film was titled The Winner ( The Victors ).

In 1970 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire ( CBE).

Carl Foreman was married and the father of three children twice.

To him, the Carl Foreman Award for Special Achievement by a British Director, Writer or Producer in Their First Feature Film for the Best Young Performance at the British Academy Film Awards were awarded in honor.
