Carl Gottlieb

Carl Gottlieb ( born March 18, 1938 in New York) is an American screenwriter, director and actor.

Life

After completing his studies at Syracuse University, he became a member of the improvisational theater group "The Committee ". At the end of the 1960s he wrote screenplays for television series, including The Bob Newhart Show for, Music Scene and The Odd Couple. In 1969 he was one of the authors of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour won the Emmy Award. He also appeared in several guest roles, including I Spy and MASH.

Steven Spielberg committed Gottlieb in 1975 as a screenwriter for Jaws because he was dissatisfied with the existing material. Gottlieb rewrote the book by Peter Benchley and also appeared in a supporting role. For the screenplay, he was nominated along with Benchley for the BAFTA, WGA and Golden Globe Award. After the screenplay for the comedy How's up? with Richard Pryor, he was obliged Jaws 2 for the sequel. In 1979, he co-wrote with Steve Martin The Jerk, whose first feature film. In 1983 followed the scripts for the comedy Dr. Detroit with Dan Aykroyd and Jaws 3-D. For the latter he was nominated for the Golden Raspberry for worst screenplay.

Gottlieb has also served as a director, he made the 1981 film Caveman - The out of the cave came with Ringo Starr in the lead role. In addition to various episodes for television series, he was also one of the directors of the Amazons on the moon or why the Yanks have the full channel and turned additional scenes for Mickey Blue Eyes ( 1999).

As early as 1968 he had joined the union Writers Guild of America and was elected three times between 1991 and 2004 as Vice - President.
