Carl-Peter Forster

Carl -Peter Forster ( born May 9, 1954 in London ) is a German manager in automotive groups. Since 2010, he served as Chief Executive Officer for the Indian company Tata Motors to September 2011.

Previously, he had leadership positions at Opel and General Motors Europe.

Life

Forster graduated from the University of Bonn to study economics at the Technical University Munich and one of Astronautics. In 1982, he was a management consultant with McKinsey in Munich. Since 1986, when he was Head of Development at BMW, he worked in the automotive industry. From 1996 to 1999 he was Managing Director of BMW South Africa and then as a board member responsible for global production. From 2001 to 2004 he was Chief Executive Officer of Opel and 2004-2009 Chairman of the Board of General Motors Europe and chairman of the Adam Opel GmbH. In February 2010 he was appointed CEO of Tata Motors. In a surprise announcement, Tata Motors announced on 9 September 2011 that Forster was resigning from his post due to personal circumstances with immediate effect. However, upon request of the Board, he remains a non- executive member of the Board.
