Carlo Chiarlo

Carlo Cardinal Chiarlo (* November 4, 1881 in Pontremoli, Massa -Carrara, Italy, † January 21, 1964 in Lucca ) was a Vatican diplomat and cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Carlo Chiarlo studied in Lucca and Rome, the subjects of philosophy and Catholic theology. He received on 28 May 1904, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a pastor and as a lecturer in the Archdiocese of Lucca. In 1917 he entered the diplomatic service of the Vatican and worked until 1922 as secretary to the Apostolic Nunciature in Peru for. In the years 1922-1928 he worked for the Apostolic Nunciature in Poland.

Pope Pius XI. appointed him Titular Archbishop of Amida 1928 dei Siri. The bishop ordained by Cardinal Pietro Gasparri Carlo Chiarlo. From 1928 to 1932 he was Apostolic Nuncio to Bolivia, from 1932 to 1941, he provided the same task in Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and El Salvador. In 1941 he returned to Rome and was Pontifical Special Representative for the care of prisoners of war. 1945 initiated Carlo Chiarlo the Pontifical Special Mission to Germany, from 1946 to 1954, he was Apostolic Nuncio to Brazil from 1954 to 1958, he was Nuncio for special tasks in the Vatican Secretariat of State. Pope John XXIII. Carlo took Chiarlo on 15 December 1958 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria in Portico in the College of Cardinals to. Carlo Cardinal Chiarlo participated in the conclave of 1963 and the first two sessions of the Second Vatican Council. He died on January 21, 1964 in Lucca and was buried in the town cemetery there.
