Carlo Emanuele Madruzzo

Carlo Emanuele Madruzzo Count of Challants, Fenis, Avio Aaberg ( born November 7, 1599 Issogne, Valle d'Aosta (Italy ), † December 15, 1658 in Trento ) was Prince-Bishop of Trent.

Life

Madruzzo came from a long-established family of politicians and church leaders. He was a son of Emmanuele Renato Madruzzo († 1614) and his wife Philiberte Emmanuelle de Seyssel ( 1531-1596 ). He was the nephew of Cardinal Carlo Gaudenzio Madruzzo (1562-1629), the great-nephew of Cardinal Giovanni Ludovico Madruzzo (1532-1600) and great-grandnephew of Cardinal Cristoforo Madruzzo (1512-1578), the prince-bishops of Trent.

By imperial decree, he was appointed on July 2, 1622 to the Coadjutor Bishop of his uncle Carlo Gaudenzio. Pope Gregory XV. confirmed the appointment on August 24, 1622, appointed him titular bishop of Aureliopolis in Asia minori. On October 28, 1627, he was a priest and two days later, ordained by his uncle Carlo Gaudenzio de Madruzzo on October 30, 1627 to the bishop. On August 14, 1629 he was installed as his successor, Prince-Bishop of Trent and on May 21, 1630, Cathedral of Trento in his diocese.

He died on December 15, 1658 and was buried in the crypt of the cathedral of Trent.
