Ludovico Madruzzo

Giovanni Ludovico Madruzzo (* 1532 in Trento, † April 20, 1600 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the family of Madruzzo.

Life

Madruzzo came from a long-established family of politicians and church leaders. He was a son of Niccolò Madruzzo and his wife Helene of Lanberg; his uncle was the Bishop of Trent Cristoforo Madruzzo Cardinale and Carlo Madruzzo - also cardinal - was his nephew.

In February 1561 Madruzzo received by Pope Pius IV the cardinal's hat and it was him soon San Callisto assigned. In 1562 he became cardinal deacon of Sant'Onofrido 1569 Cardinal priest of the same church. Ordained a priest in his home diocese in 1564, he became bishop of Trent in 1567, but received only 1570 consecrated bishop by Cardinal Stanislaus Hosius. For a long time but he spent in Rome and stayed there until his death. After his death in 1600 that Pope Clement VIII Madruzzo nephew, Carlo Madruzzo, as his successor.

Giovanni Ludovico Madruzzo took part in 1582 papal legate at the Diet of Augsburg as and consecrated there on August 12, 1582 the new Trier Pastor Johann von Schönberg ( 1525-1599 ) bishop.

In 1586 he became cardinal priest of Santa Anastasia and in 1591 by San Lorenzo in Lucina. Pope Clement VIII finally brought him in 1597 to the rank of Cardinal Bishop of Sabina, and even in his death 1600, Cardinal Bishop of Frascati.
