Carlo Gaudenzio Madruzzo

Carlo Gaudenzio Madruzzo (* 1562 in Issogne, Valle d'Aosta (Italy ); † August 14, 1629 in Rome) was Prince-Bishop of Trent and cardinal.

Life

Madruzzo came from a long-established family of politicians and church leaders. He was a son of Giovanni Frederico Madruzzo (1535-1586) and his wife Isabelle de Challants ( 1531-1596 ). He was the nephew of Cardinal Giovanni Ludovico Madruzzo (1532-1600), the Prince-Bishop of Trent and grand-nephew of Cardinal Cristoforo Madruzzo ( 1512-1578 ).

He studied from 1577 to 1582 philosophy at the Jesuit College at Ingolstadt and 1584-1586 law in Pavia. He lived in the wake of his uncle, Cardinal Giovanni Ludovico di Madruzzo and accompanied him to the Diet of Augsburg in 1582 and 1594 to the Diet of Regensburg.

On October 23, 1595, Pope Clement VIII appointed Coadjutor Bishop of his uncle Giovanni Ludovico di Madruzzo. He was consecrated on February 11, 1596 by Jacopo Roveglio ( Rovelli ) the Bishop of Feltre.
