Carlo Molfetta

Carlo Molfetta (born 15 February 1984 in Mesagne ) is an Italian Taekwondoin.

He celebrated his first success with the junior world title in 2000. A year later, he moved surprisingly also in the adult range at the World Championships in Jeju -si to the finals and won in the weight category up to 67 kg silver medal. In the following years Molfetta was especially successful at European Championships. In the category up to 72 kg, he won in Lillehammer silver and bronze in 2005 in Riga in 2004. Molfetta also launched at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. There he occupied after opening loss and a win in the repechage seventh.

Since 2009, Molfetta starts in the weight category up to 87 kilograms. At the World Championships in Copenhagen, he reached the finals and won his second world championship silver medal. Finally his first international title he followed at the European Championships 2010 in St. Petersburg, where he became European Champion with a superior final victory. More bronze medals collected Molfetta at the 2011 World Championships in Gyeongju and the European Championships 2012 in Manchester.

Molfetta reached in January 2012 at the European Olympic qualifying tournament in Kazan in the weight category over 80 kg the final and qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. There he met up before the finals and won against Anthony Obame the battle for the gold medal, with 9:9 after extra time and points by jury decision.
