Carlos Prada Sanmiguel

Carlos Prada Sanmiguel (* December 27 1939 in Floridablanca, Santander Department, Colombia; † August 16, 2013 in Bogotá, Colombia) was Bishop of Duitama - Sogamoso.

Life

Carlos Prada Sanmiguel studied philosophy at the Regional Seminary of Pamplona (NS) and Catholic Theology at the city's Grand Seminary of St. Thomas Aquinas. He received on February 6, 1966 in Bucaramanga, the sacrament of Holy Orders. He was in the diocese of Bucaramanga and worked from 1966 to 1968 Spiritual Director of the Minor Seminary of Floridablanca. At the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome, he studied education, philosophy and Christian Archaeology at the Pontifical Istituto di Archeological Cristiana, Rome.

He was secretary of the Archbishop of Bucaramanga and chaplain of the Colegio de la Presentación in Bucaramanga 1972. 1974 to 1985 he was rector of the seminary of Bucaramanga. From 1986 to 1988 he headed the department for seminarians and vocations of Secretariado Permanente del Episcopado Colombiano (SPEC).

On January 20, 1988 John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Baliana and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Medellin. The Archbishop of Medellín, Alfonso Cardinal López Trujillo, donated to him on February 20th of that year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia, Archbishop Angelo Acerbi, and the Archbishop of Bucaramanga, Héctor Rueda Hernández. As a motto he chose humiles Exaltavit.

On June 21, 1994 John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Duitama - Sogamoso. Pope Benedict XVI. adopted on October 15, 2012 at the Carlos Prada Sanmiguel put forward for health reasons resignation.
