Carmignano

Carmignano is a municipality and an Italian wine region in the province of Prato, Tuscany. The municipality has 14,118 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) and lies at an altitude of 189 m asl. Municipality in the eastern area of the river Ombrone Pistoiese flows.

According to legend, St. Francis received in 1211, while he was preaching in the area of Carmignano, by the community, a piece of land. At this spot outside the city fortifications be confrere Bernard of Quintavalle built a convent and an oratorio. In the following years the city grew and the church was incorporated and converted into a parish church. It houses a painting by Jacopo Pontormo, referred to as " visitation " and was built around 1528.
