Carolyn Rodrigues

Carolyn Rodrigues - Birkett ( born September 16, 1973 in Santa Rosa, Region Barima - Waini, Guyana ) is a politician from Guyana.

Biography

After attending elementary school in Santa Rosa, as well as a private school in Georgetown, she completed a degree in Business Administration at the University of Saskatchewan. Upon her return to Guyana in 1993, she studied social work at the University of Guyana, which closed it with an academic degree ( Degree). At the same time it was between 1993 and 2001 Manager of the Amerindian Projects Programme of the Social Impact Amelioration Programme ( SIMAP APP ), a program for the promotion of social projects for the benefit of the natives of the country.

In 2001 she was appointed by President Bharrat Jagdeo to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs ( Amerindian Affairs ) in the cabinet of Prime Minister Samuel Hinds A.. In this role, she brought in March 2006, a law to improve the rights of indigenous ( Amerindian Bill). After the election for the National Assembly in September 2006, she was confirmed as first minister by President Jagdeo in office.

As part of a cabinet reshuffle took place on 10 April 2008 her appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs, and thus to the first Secretary of their home country. Successor as Minister for the Affairs of the natives was the former Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Pauline Campbell - Sukhai. As Secretary of State she sees a focus of regional integration Guyana in the Caribbean and solving problems within the Caribbean Community ( CARICOM).
