Casimir I, Duke of Cieszyn

Casimir I (Czech: Kazimír I. Těšínský, Polish: Kazimierz I cieszyński; * to 1280/1290, † 1358 ) was from 1315 to 1358 Duke of Teschen.

Origin and family

Casimir I was the son of the Duke of Teschen Mesko I. The name of his mother, who died around 1303, is unknown. In 1321 he married Euphemia of Masovia, who gave birth to nine children:

Life

After the death of his father in 1315 to Casimir received the southwestern part of the Duchy of Teschen, with the city at the center. He initially maintained good relations with Władysław I the Elbow-, the 1320 Polish king. But when this occurred with the support of Lithuanian troops in the Duchy of Auschwitz, Kasimir is turned to the Bohemian king John of Luxembourg.
