Władysław of Bytom

Władysław of Bytom and Cosel (also Vladislav of Bytom and Cosel; Polish Władysław Bytomski; Czech Vladislav Bytomsko - Koselský; * to 1277/1283, † 1352) was Duke of Upper Silesian duchies Bytom and Cosel. He came from a branch of the Silesian Piast Beuthener.

Origin and family

Władysław was the second eldest son of Casimir II and the Duke Beuthener Helena, whose origin is not known. 1308 or later, he married Beatrix, the widow of the Duke Schweidnitzer Bolko I. The couple had children:

  • Casimir III. ( 1312-1342/1347 ), Herzog von Cosel
  • Euphemia ( 1312-1376/1378 ); ∞ (1328/1333) Duke Konrad I of Oels († 1366)

After Beatrix died in 1316, married in 1328 to Wladislaus with Lukardis / Luitgard, daughter of the Duke Pribislaw II of Parchim Rich Mountain. This couple had children:

  • Boleslaw / Bolko (1330-1355), Duke of Bytom and Cosel
  • Agnes († 1362 ), Abbess of Trebnitzgrund
  • Catherine ( † 1377 ), Abbess of Trebnitzgrund
  • Beatrix ( † 1364 ); ∞ ( in 1357 ) to Count Berthold of Hardegg († 1374 )

Life

Władysław was first mentioned on 10 January 1289 when he along with his father and his older brother Boleslaw in Prague the Czech King Wenceslas II paid homage and fealty took off. During the lifetime of his father, who died in 1312, he dubbed as Duke of Cosel. 1323 gave the Wladislaus exposed to German law village Dombrowka the Cistercian monastery Mogila near Cracow. Along with the Dukes Bolko of Falkenberg and Casimir I, he went in February 1327 Opava, there to pay homage to the Bohemian king John of Luxembourg, who was on a campaign of Brno on Upper Silesia to Cracow. After the brothers Boleslaw, Mieszko Ziemowit and died before Vladislav and no descendants left on, its sub-regions of Władysław, who united to the Duchy of Bytom - Cosel. After his death Cosel was spun for his older son Kasimir. The younger son Boleslaw / Bolko received the so reduced Bytom. He inherited after Casimir's death Cosel he again united with Bytom.
