Castelfranco di Sopra

Castelfranco di Sopra is a district of the municipality of Castelfranco Piandiscò with 3048 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Arezzo. Castelfranco di Sopra has a medieval center. The municipality is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy (I più belli d' Italia borghi ).

Geography

The site covers approximately 38 km ². It is located about 30 km northwest of Arezzo and 30 km southeast of Florence, the Arno river.

The districts include Caspri, Certignano, llama, Pietravigne and Pulicciano.

The nearby towns are Castel San Niccolò, Figline Valdarno ( FI), Loro Ciuffenna, Pian di Scò, Regello (FI ), San Giovanni Valdarno and Terra Bracciolini.

History

Castelfranco di Sopra was founded in 1299 in Florence. On January 1, 2014, until then an independent city was merged with the neighboring town of Pian di Scò the new municipality of Castelfranco Piandiscò.

Attractions

  • Palazzo Comunale - The Palazzo Comunale is supposed to be original. At the palace façade the coat of arms of the Podesta are attached. In the palace itself the Sala Consiliare with the fresco of the Madonna del Latte ( late 16th century ) is remarkable.
  • Chiesa di San Filippo Neri - The façade was built in 1761, the oratorio was born in 1631 in 1666 it was enlarged. ..
  • Torre d' Arnolfo or Porta Campana - This building dates from the year 1300 The Porta Campana is adorned with the Florentine lily and was built by Arnolfo di Cambio. .
