Figline Valdarno

Figline Valdarno is a town of Figline Valdarno e Incisa with 16,971 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Florence, Tuscany.

Geography

The site covers approximately 71 km ². It is located about 25 km southeast of Florence in the southeast of the province of Florence in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone D, 1925 GG.

Vigline Valdarno lies in the name of additional imaging Arno Valley ( Valdarno), the Arno flows through the municipal area 7 km long. Another important body of water is the Torrente Torrente del Cesto who spends all of his 8 km in the municipality. To the east of the municipality lies Faella and the province of Arezzo, to the west the area of Chianti. Figline Valdarno belongs to the diocese of Fiesole.

Other districts include Brollo (290 m, about 80 inhabitants), Gaville (276 m, about 70 inhabitants), Lagaccioni (125 m, about 160 inhabitants), Pian delle maquis (267 m, about 150 inhabitants), Poggiolino (196 m, about 320 inhabitants), Ponte agli Stolli (300 m, about 230 inhabitants), Porcellino (135 m, about 200 inhabitants) and Restone (133 m, about 230 inhabitants).

The nearby towns are Castelfranco di Sopra (AR), Cavriglia (AR), Greve in Chianti, Incisa in Val d' Arno, Pian di Scò (AR), Regello and San Giovanni Valdarno (AR).

History

The story of Figline Valdarno begins in the 11th century with the mention of the castle Castello di Fegghine that lay on a hill above the river. The area around the hill was inhabited by the Etruscans. After the destruction of the castle was the corresponding lower town ( Borgo ), which originated around the 12th century and served as a marketplace, developed by the Fiorentinern in the 1250s years. In the 14th century the city wall was built with the gates of Porta Aretina, Porta Fiorentina, Porta San Francesco and Porta Senese ( walled up ).

Figline Valdarno experienced a steady population increase since 1861. During 1861, the population was just under ten thousand, she grew steadily to over 16,000 in the year 2011.   • Monastero della Santa Croce delle Agostiniane, monastery, which was founded in 1542.
  • Chiesa di San Francesco, already mentioned church in 1229 with the Convention. Contains Giovanni del Biondo of the work Madonna col Bambino from the year 1392nd
