Cavriglia

Cavriglia is a municipality with 9542 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Arezzo, in Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 61 km ². It is located about 35 km west of Arezzo and 35 km southeast of Florence. It is the westernmost municipality of the province of Arezzo, located in the upper Arno valley ( Valdarno ) a few kilometers north-east of Chianti in climatic classification of Italian communities in Zone E, ​​2106 GG

Among the districts of Castelnuovo dei Sabbioni count (280 m, about 1000 inhabitants ), Massa dei Sabbioni ( 351 m, 150 inhabitants), Meleto Valdarno (240 m, about 450 inhabitants), Montegonzi ( 439 m, about 140 inhabitants), Neri (294 m, about 520 inhabitants), San Cipriano Valdarno - Santa Barbara (143 m, about 1800 inhabitants ) and Vacchereccia (150 m, about 730 inhabitants).

History

The municipality was created March 17, 1809 under Napoleononischer rule. Previously, most districts were independently and usually with Etruscan origin. From the time of the Etruscans and the Romans also most place names are derived from: Caprilius for Cavriglia or Avane for the entire region of the upper Arno valley, such as Castelnuovo d' Avane (today Castelnuovo dei Sabbioni ) and San Cipriano in Avane (now San Cipriano Valdarno). In the Middle Ages (12th- 13th century) the area by the Grafenfamiglien Conti and Ricasoli later by the Ubertini and the Pazzi (14th century) was dominated.
