Castelo Branco is an administrative unit on the Azores island of Faial. The area is 23.9 km ². The population was 2011 1309 inhabitants on June 30.
History
After King Manuel I in 1514 for the first time ordered the establishment of a municipality in the area dates back to the first recorded mention of the village of 30 July 1568th
Culture and sights
The parish church Igreja Paroquial de Castelo Branco (also Igreja de Santa Catarina de Alexandria ) is a listed building.
The karate club Karate Do Shotokan O Clube de Morro, which was founded in 1917 football club Clube Recreio e Fraternidade, and the versatile sports club Castelo Branco Sports Club are the biggest sports clubs in the community. Various folk dance, music, scouts and cultural associations are active in Castelo Branco.
