Cataract was a Swiss thrash metal band.

History

Cataract were formed in the summer of 1998. Originally, the band should only be a project by members of the bands Mine, Damage ID and Cease. Still in its first year, the band recorded a self-titled demo. This demo sold over 2,000 times and Cataract been known both in the metal and in the hardcore scene.

After a 7 " EP and some compilations, the band released their debut album in April 2000 Golem. After the recordings, they sought a record company and finally found it with the U.S. company Ferret Music. The vinyl edition of the album was released by the German company Lifeforce Records.

In early 2001 the singer Christian " Mosh " Ebert was replaced by Federico Carminitana. From now on, the band rehearsed more often and more regularly. Carminitana is heard for the first time on a short time later released EP Martyr's Melodies. In the summer of 2001 Cataract toured for the first time by the United States and gave concerts with bands like Unearth, Poison the Well and Most Precious Blood. Beginning of 2002 went on their first headlining tour Cataract through Central and Eastern Europe.

After the tour, the band recorded their second album, The Great Days of Vengeance, which was released in March 2003 via Lifeforce Records. Again Cataract played many concerts in Europe and ended the year with a tour of the UK as support from Stampin ' Ground.

In March 2004, Cataract visited the Antfarm Studio in Denmark to record their third album With Triumph Comes Loss, directed by Tue Madsen. Shortly after the beginning of the recording, the band signed a deal with Metal Blade Records, which released the album in September 2004. With Triumph Comes Loss received by the music press and good reviews Cataract made ​​the breakthrough in the scene. In December 2004, the band went as part of the No Mercy Tour (next to Six Feet Under and Nile ) on their first big tour. This was followed by numerous performances in 2005, including the Wacken Open Air, the Dour Festival and at the With Full Force Open Air, as well as a European mini-tour with Amon Amarth.

In early 2006 the band recorded their fourth album Kingdom, which hit stores in May 2006. Shortly after the release of this album, there was the second lineup changes. Bassist Michael Henggeler was replaced by Kay Brem. With Cataract Kingdom were able to maintain their position as one of Europe's most successful metalcore bands. In addition to various festival appearances the Hell on Earth tour with Heaven Shall Burn, Maroon and God Forbid was a highlight of the year.

But 2007 should not occur without occupation Carousel: In January, Simon Füllemann left the band, his place was taken by Tom Kuzmic.

In the spring of 2013, the band released their resolution known for " other priorities " and creative standstill.
