Catoctin AVA

Catoctin AVA ( recognized since 17 May 1983) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of Maryland. The area covers the administrative regions of Frederick County and Washington in the west of the state. In the east, the defined area is Catoctin Mountain ( part of the Blue Ridge Mountains ). In the north of the border to Pennsylvania determined the extent of the area. In the West, South Mountain is located (also a spur of the Blue Ridge Mountains ), and on the south of the Potomac River the area. " Catoctin " means, in the local language Algonquian spotted rock and plays on a geological nature of the area.

Currently marketed only a winery, Frederick Cellars, the wine under the name of the protected designation of origin.
