Caucasus Emirate

The Caucasus Emirate (Russian Кавказский Эмират / Kawkasskij emirate, Arabic إمارة القوقاز الإسلامية; Chechen Имарат Кавказ / Imarat Kavkaz ) is one of the international community not recognized, proclaimed Islamic state in Russia's North Caucasus. The Caucasus Emirate, Umarov was proclaimed by the Chechen terrorists and rebel leader Doku on October 31, 2007. It can be seen as a kind of successor state of the world also unrecognized Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, however, involves much more areas than the latter and sees itself as a pan - Caucasian movement.

The Caucasus Emirate is currently virtually non-existent, the claimed territory is under the control of the Russian government. However, Militant supporters of the Caucasus Emirate perpetrate repeatedly attacks in the North Caucasus, their goal is to establish an Islamic state within the meaning of Sharia in the North Caucasus.

Russia and the United States shall designate the Caucasus Emirate as a terrorist organization. On 26 May 2011, the U.S. government set up, run by Umarov emirate on the US-led list of terrorist organizations and set a bounty of up to five million dollars for evidence from which lead to the seizure of Umarov. Also, the UN Security Council continued the Caucasus Emirate on a list of organizations that cooperate with al - Qaeda.

The emirate is controversial even among the many peoples of the Northern Caucasus. The extent to which the policy objectives of the Islamists refer to the population sympathies or support is unclear. At best, a very small minority should actively support these goals. Leading members of the Chechen separatist movement ( among them Akhmed Zakayev ) reject the emirate.
