Căzănești

Cazanesti is a town in the district Ialomiţa in Romania.

Geographical location

Cazanesti is the Bărăgan - steppe - a part of the Wallachian Plain - north of the river Ialomiţa. The district capital Slobozia located about 30 km to the east, the country's capital, Bucharest, about 80 km south-west.

History

About 400 meters west of the modern village remains of a getic or Dacian settlement were discovered. Cazanesti was first documented in 1596. The eastern part of today's urban area was to the 19th century part of the monastery's possessions, which was secularized under the reign of Alexandru Ioan Cuza. 1864 moved the inhabitants of the originally located immediately to the village Ialomiţa their settlement to its present location. Cazanesti and its surroundings were covered by the peasant uprising in Romania in 1907. After the First World War was Cazanesti seat of a municipality. 1950 to 1955 resulted in a large farm north-west of the village. 2004 Cazanesti was declared a city.

The main industries are agriculture and small industries.

Population

1930 lived on the territory of today's approximately 2,000 inhabitants, almost exclusively Romanians. As of the 2002 census, 3,641 inhabitants were counted, including 3,158 Romanians and 482 Roma.

Traffic

Cazanesti is located on the railway line from Slobozia after Urziceni. In both directions currently operate (2009) per day in each direction about five commuter trains. Through the city runs the European Route 60
