Ceanu Mare

Ceanu Mare (Hungarian Mezőcsán ) is a municipality in the district of Cluj ( Cluj ) in Transylvania, Romania. The community has approximately 3500 inhabitants, of which about 1500 in the village itself, the rest live in the incorporated villages.

A certain level of recognition was the place as on 18 September 2001, the then German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder wanted to visit his father, Lance Corporal Fritz Schröder 's grave. This had fallen at the age of 32 years near the town of Turda (German Thornburg ) on October 4, 1944. Due to the events of 11 September 2001 ( attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon ), the visit was canceled. During his state visit on 12 August 2004 Gerhard Schröder took in company with the Romanian President Ion Iliescu after a visit to the village cemetery, where also eight other soldiers are buried.

Social

The biggest problem of the village is the lack of running water. After the state visit, however, signs of a solution. Ion Iliescu has ( after he had been approached by Schröder at the cost of the project ) the competent authorities instructed " to take care of the problem ."
