Cédric Van Branteghem

Cédric Van Branteghem ( Cédric Marie Carlos Thérèse " Cedje " Van Branteghem; born March 13, 1979 in Ghent) is a Belgian sprinter.

Van Branteghem won the 2001 its first Belgian championship in the 400 -meter run, 2002, he won the 200 -meter run. At the European Championships in Munich in 2002 Van Branteghem reached the final of the 400m, finishing in 45.95 s sixth place. In 2003, he increased his personal best several times and was about 200 meters Belgian champion again. At the Memorial Van Damme in Brussels, he improved to over 400 meters in 45.02 seconds and thus beat the 27 -year-old record of Alfons Brijdenbach. At the World Championships in Paris -Saint -Denis, he reached the semi-finals on 400 and the quarter-finals over 200 meters ( his last start over this distance in international championships). Also the semi-finals he reached over 400 meters at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

2005, 400 and 2006, over 200 meters, he won two more Belgian champion. At the World Championships in Helsinki, he left in the run, but it was fourth at the Universiade in İzmir.

At the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2006, he left in the run, and at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he again reached the semi-finals in the individual competition. The Belgian relay with Jonathan Borlée, Kevin Borlée and Arnaud Ghislain reached the final in the 4 x 400 - meter relay and finished fifth in 2:59,37 min. This time they improved the Belgian record of 1981. Branteghem Van was able to Fons Brijdenbach remove his second outdoor record, who had also kept 27 years.

In 2009 he retired from the world championships in Berlin in the flow. The following year, Van Branteghem was first runner of the Belgian 4 x 400 -meter relay at the World Indoor Championships in Doha; along with Kevin and Jonathan Borlée and Antoine Gillet, he won the silver medal in 3:06,94 minutes after the U.S. season. At the European Championships in Barcelona, he won bronze in the same discipline together with Arnaud Destatte and Borlée brothers.

Cédric Van Branteghem is 1,77 m tall and weighs 72 kg. He lives in Lovendegem and is trained by Patrick Himschoot.
