Centurian (grape)

Centurian is a red grape variety. It is a new breed between ( x Carignan Cabernet Sauvignon) and Grenache. The crossing was made in 1949 by Harold Olmo at the University of California at Davis. The launch of the grape was in 1976.

The mother places ( Carignan x Cabernet Sauvignon ) named F2 -7 was already in 1936. Breeding goal, a variety specially create for the dry and hot conditions of the Central Valley region in California, was the varietal character of Cabernet Sauvignon should wear.

Currently there are approximately 87 acres ( 35.2 hectares) planted with the variety Carnelian in California (→ Viticulture in California). Since the variety is hardly replanted, remove the stocks.

With the same parents was the variety was bred Carnelian in 1949.
