Province

Chainat ( Thai: ชัยนาท ) is the capital of the province ( Changwat ) Chainat in the central region of Thailand. Chainat is also the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Chainat ( อำเภอ เมือง ชัยนาท ).

Location

Chainat is located in the north central region on Maenam Chaophraya. The city and has long been a transit point for goods of all kinds

Economic importance and

The surroundings of Chainat shows the typical location of the central region: a flat fertile plain covered with rice fields where mainly irrigated rice is grown. The irrigation regulates the Chaophraya Dam, the first dam in Thailand, which impounds the Chaophraya since 1957 in the south of Chainat.

History

Originally, the city was where Sankhaburi is today. It was not until the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV ), it was moved to its present location on the east bank of the Chao Phraya.

Attractions

  • Wat Phra Boromathat Worawihan ( Thai: วัด พระบรม ธาตุ วรวิหาร ) - Buddhist temple ( Wat ) slightly above the Chao Phraya Dam with a chedi in the 15th century Srivijaya style.
  • National Museum Chainat Muni ( พิพิธภัณฑสถาน แห่ง ชาติ ชัยนาท มุนี ) - right next to Wat Boromathat, with numerous antique Buddha statues, including a sitting Buddha from the 10th century.
  • Wat Thammamun Worawihan ( วัด ธร ร มา มูล วรวิหาร ) - Buddhist temple from the Ayutthaya period at the foot of Thammamun hill about eight kilometers outside the city. The large standing Buddha, which " Luang Pho Thammachak " ( หลวง พ่อ ธรรมจักร ) is called, is much revered by the people.
  • The " bird park Chainat " ( Thai: สวน นก ชัยนาท ) - a huge bird park, about four kilometers outside the city.
