Champniers (Charente)

Champniers is a commune with 5170 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Charente in the Poitou -Charentes. It belongs administratively to the district Angoulême and the canton of Gond- Pontouvre.

Geography

The municipality is located in the metropolitan area about eight kilometers north of Angoulême in the natural landscape Angoumois. Distance to Cognac is about 40 kilometers, 15 kilometers to La Rochefoucauld and after Mansle 18 km. The direct neighboring municipalities are:

  • Anais in the north,
  • Brie in the east,
  • Ruelle -sur -Touvre in the south,
  • Gond- Pontouvre in the southwest,
  • Balzac in the west and
  • Vars in the northwest.

In the municipality the following hamlets and villages are: Viville, Argence, Vouillac, La Chignolle, Les Rossignol, Les Chauvauds, denat, Fontenille, Fond fraîche et Chez Surand, Les Cloux, La Simarde, Les Coussauds, Villeneuve and Les Montagnes.

The river Argence, a tributary of the Charente, crosses the area.

From Angoulême Champniers the route leads National N2010 who initially accompanied the highway-like -developed N10, finally flows into this and continues to Poitiers. A large motorway junction leads to the running of the southern boundary of the municipality northeast N141. Even the airport Angoulême - Cognac lies mostly in the municipality of Champniers. By western municipality performs the railway line Bordeaux - Paris.
