Changbai Shan
Changbai Shan, Korean also Changbaek San (" ever - white " ) refers to a mountain range on the frontier between China and North Korea. The mountain range spreads from the northeastern Chinese provinces of Jilin and Liaoning out to the North Korean provinces Ryanggang and Chagang. Many peaks in the Changbai Mountains exceed the 2,000 m mark. The highest and most famous mountain of the Changbai Mountains is the Paektu San / Shan Baitou with his Heavenly Lake ( Tian Chi ). In the mountains, according to legend Bukuri Yongson to be born, who is the ancestor of Nurhaci and the Aisin Gioro the royal family, and who founded Manchuria and the Chinese Qing Dynasty.
Nature Reserve of Changbai Shan
The Nature Reserve of Changbai Shan (长白山 自然保护区) is of particular importance for the preservation of the natural region of Changbai Mountains. The reserve is located in Jilin Province on the border with North Korea and covers an area of 1,900 square kilometers. In the reserve are particularly original forests and Baitou, the highest peak in Northeast China. About 50 species of mammals and 300 species of birds inhabit the area. Among them are also very rare big cats, such as Amur Leopard and Siberian tigers. Other large mammals of the reserve are brown bear, lynx, red deer, sika deer, wild boar, Goral and otters.
