Charlemagne, Quebec

Charlemagne ( ʃaʁ.lə.maɲ ) is a city in the southwest of the Canadian province of Quebec. It is located in the Lanaudière region, approximately 20 km north of the center of Montreal. Charlemagne is part of the regional county municipality ( municipalité régional du comté ) L' Assomption, has an area of ​​2.16 km ² and has 5,853 inhabitants ( 2011).

Geography

Charlemagne is located in the Rive- Nord, between the north bank of the Rivière des Prairies and the west bank of the Rivière L' Assomption. The latter leads to the height of the Île Bourdon in the Rivière des Prairies, in turn, one kilometer east flows into the St. Lawrence River. On the opposite side of the Île Bourdon is the Ile de Montréal. The terrain is mostly flat. History

The current urban area was well into the 19th century, uninhabited and belonged to the municipality of Le Gardeur ( Repentigny in 2002 merged with ).
