Charles Baring, 2nd Baron Howick of Glendale

Charles Evelyn Baring, 2nd Baron Howick of Glendale ( born December 30, 1937) is a British peer, botanist and politician.

Life and career

Baring, a member of the Baring family, was born as the son of Evelyn Baring, 1st Baron Howick of Glendale, and Lady Mary Cecil Grey ( 1907-2002 ). He attended Eton College and New College, University of Oxford.

He is known as a botanist. Baring is the creator of Howick Arboretum at Howick Hall, one of the largest collections of wild plants in the UK. From 1969 to 1982 he held the office of the Director of Barings Bank held and served on the board of the National Art Collections Fund. 1987 to 2001 he was director of Northern Rock plc.

The title of his father he inherited on March 10, 1973. His seat in the House of Lords he lost with the House of Lords Act 1999.

Family

Baring is married to Clare Nicolette Darby since April 11, 1964 the daughter of Colonel Cyril Darby. They have four children, all now married, and thirteen grandchildren.
