Charles Bernstein (composer)

Charles Harold Bernstein ( born February 28, 1943 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an American composer for film and television.

Life and work

At the age of 16 years, Bernstein conducted his own orchestral music. After studying composition at the Juilliard School, he moved to the University of California, Los Angeles ( UCLA), where he was awarded several academic prizes and studied with Roy Harris.

Meanwhile, Amber is a member of the Executive Board of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Society of Composers and Lyricists and ASCAP and Vice President of the Academy of Motion Picture Foundation. He also has taught at the Filmmusikfakultär the University of Southern California and holds an annual seminar for film music at UCLA Extension.

In addition to his work as a film composer Bernstein also writes books about music that have been awarded the ASCAP Deems Taylor Special Recognition Award.

Bernstein composed over 100 film scores, us is particularly known for his work in the genres of science fiction and horror. This includes films such as Entity - There is no escape from the invisible, which pursues us ( nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Music ), Cujo, Wes Craven's classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Horror party and love at first bite. In addition, he composed much for television. For subsequent Little Miss Perfect Series CBS School Break Special, he won an Emmy. His music for flames of passion - A True Story and The Sea Wolf was nominated for an Emmy and The man who broke 1000 chains for a Cable ACE Award.

He currently lives with his wife Georgianne Bernstein in Los Angeles.
